I've heard it said in these pages that the reason CT doesn't do "Reach Out" anymore is because Tom won't play a Pete Comita song. If true, I think it's messed up. It took some of us a long time to forgive Tom for leaving.*

I think it was around the release of "Next Position Please" that I started to wonder if Cheap Trick was going to make it; stay intact. Much of the material was weak and hard to defend ("Y.O.Y.O.Y?" Please.); there was precious little record company support; and they were on replacement bass player #2. I mean, come on, "switching Darrens" only works on television; and for a very short time. I was bracing for the worst; and, in the event, ready to blame Tom Petersson!

A similar departure would have torn many other bands apart. That we are here today discussing CT's many happenings is testament to their character and commitment; and lucky for Tom -- because I never would have forgiven him!

*The split may have been amicable and in the interests of all parties, but what do I know 1000 miles away?[/I]
Well.....they play "Tonight It's You" and Jon Brant helped write that song......
The second Darrin was way better than the whiny first one. Same for Chris Partridge.
I can't comment on the Tom/Ptete thing but while I really love Reach Out and would truly enjoy hearing it live with TP's 12 string bass ramping it up a notch it's a rather small part of CT's body of work and there's just too much other better material for them to play. Just my opinion...

Pachyderm I

'Reach Out' along with another Cheap Trick track 'I Must be Dreamin' are on The Heavy Metal Soundtrack which is still in print.

Gotta love RZ dropping the "s**t" bomb in IMBD. Smile
I love both of those songs. IMBD is one of CT's heaviest...I'd like to hear that one live.
I've heard Tom play a lot of the '80s tunes. The band dont have a keyboard player at every show so that would be a hard one to play.

I just realized that I forgot to answer the itunes part of your question. The Heavy Metal Soundtrack is available on itunes, but as an 'Album Only' buy. None of the Cheap Trick songs can be bought by themselves. Sad
I have a live version of Reach Out (somewhere) that has no keys on it. Rick plays the key parts on guitar. Around 1981 I believe.

They don't like Pete Comita. If they wanted to do it they would, it is not that difficult.
CT continued to play Reach Out live until 1984. The film is still a cult classic, I don't see why they can't play it from time to time. I guess they just really don't want to be associated with Pete Comita.
Best CT song they didn't write....sorry Flame. Cool
