I am in love with "Smile", I find it to be an absolute beautiful song, and I am sure that there are many out there that don't care for it. I wouldn't be surprised if it became a single. Now, I know that some will bring up " The Flame", but I think that since this is the guys' creation, I do see a difference.
I just wish I had a significant other to share it with. Hey, maybe if i play it enough times, someone will hear it and just think what a sensitive guy I am. It could happen :p

Alright, let me have it, I am a big boy, I can take it
After listening a few times , I dubbed "Smile" as my favorite. It stuck in my head. I think of it as a love song instead of a ballad. It suits Robin perfectly.
Song has just hit me right, the sappy cuss that I am

Thanks, Bernadicou - nice to know not the only one - since Smile not getting much love on the "least liked" thread, but that is why there are so many colors in the crayon box (how many are there now anyway? that's another thread or poll)
Any one know the lyrics to the song? I am unable to figure it out for myself but I get goosebumps with that song. My God does Robin do a phenomenal job belting out the chorus.
nothing wrong with liking it,because it's a good song anyway you slice it. i like it too. i can't always be full throdle rock all the time.there has to be sweet emotions in songs, and i feel it on this song as well as many others on the cd.

trying to figure out all the lyrics myself, but agree about the goosebumps. whether it's Smile or Gonna Raise Hell, Robin's voice is simply powerful
Yeah I'm a "smile" lover. I think that it's an awesome song, beautifull vocal, excellent arangement. Love it.
And I'm a big-boy too, LOL, and you know what, although the Flame get's constantly bagged, Hearing Robyn hit That note is still a highlight of any concert for me.
So there you go, guess we're a big bunch of pansies deep down LOL.

i'll show you pansie
I think that Smile is quite unique compared to the entire Cheap Trick catalogue - probably even a bit more mellow than The Flame and YOYOY.

I'm probably going to take it on the chin for saying this, but if you take out a few of the power chords during the refrain, this song would fit perfectly on any Carpenters album. This really rings true for me with the instrumental part at the end (3:50 & onward). Tell me that wouldn't pass for the work of Richard Carpenter any day...

Now some fans may take that as an insult, but I actually kind of like The Carpenters. I'm just putting it out there as an obeservation because I found it to be so un-expected from Cheap Trick.

I can't state it any better than a previous post in another thread that characterized this recording as the "prettiest" work that the band has ever produced. No complaints here. I think Smile is a good tune, and I like to be surprised by hearing different styles from the band. I think there's something for everybody on this CD.
Love the song!
if aerosmith had a hit with the "smell" of rotton eggs, weeks before halloween, that has gone #1, then shurely, smile by cheap trick is better. fu#k radio.what's left of it. icon_rambo.gif

Ohh raquel, You big spunk, glad to have you between us, err, umm, actually, yeah that's what I meant I suppose, yeah why not !!!
I'm with ya. I love it. I think Robin sounds phenomenal on the choruses. Listening to the lyrics I think that he is singing to his kids, not a spouse/girlfriend. Beautiful song. Doesn't remind me at all of The Flame (thank God, not a big fan of that songSmile
